Advanced: dimensions, calibration & start position
No printer aligns perfectly out of the box. Proof one sheet on plain paper over a blank sheet held up to the light, adjust the calibration offsets above, and test-scan a printed code on the real material before running the full batch. Always print at 100% / actual size with "fit to page" turned off.

Printer settings that keep labels lined up
- Scale
- 100% or “Actual size”. Turn off “Fit to page”, “Shrink oversized pages” and “Fit to printable area”.
- Paper size
- Exactly the sheet you load — A4 for A4 sheets, Letter for US Letter. A mismatch shrinks everything.
- Margins
- Leave at the PDF’s own setting (“Default” or “None” in Chrome). The label positions are already in the PDF.
- Paper type
- “Labels” or “Heavy paper” if your printer offers it, and feed sheets through the manual tray if it jams.
- Thermal printers
- Set the label size in the printer driver to the roll size (50 × 30 or 100 × 50 mm) and the darkness to medium.
Always print the first page on plain paper, hold it over a label sheet against a window, and only then load the labels.

CSV import and sequential numbering
Bring in a spreadsheet of values, captions and copy counts — see printing labels from a CSV file for the column layout and how leading zeros survive the import — or generate a run of sequential IDs like ASSET-0001 directly in the tool, without a spreadsheet at all. Both feed the same layout engine, so the printed sheet always matches the measurements shown above it.

Test before the batch
Thermal printers vary widely in effective resolution. Print one roll label, scan it with the device that will be used in practice, and only then run the batch.
Label maker — common questions
Which label sheets are supported?
Avery L7159-compatible A4 sheets (63.5 × 33.86 mm, 3 × 8 labels), Avery 5160-compatible US Letter sheets (66.675 × 25.4 mm, 3 × 10 labels), a few generic A4 grid layouts, and 50 × 30 mm or 100 × 50 mm thermal rolls printed one label per page. Every preset's dimensions are shown before you print, and you can override any of them if your stock differs slightly.
Can I import a spreadsheet instead of typing each label?
Yes. Import a CSV with one row per label — a value column, an optional caption and an optional copies count — and the tool lays out one code per row. See the CSV printing guide for the exact column format and how leading zeros survive the import.
Can each label get its own sequential number?
Yes. Sequential numbering fills a padded counter — for example ASSET-0001, ASSET-0002 — across as many labels as you need, without a spreadsheet, which is the fastest way to number a batch of asset tags or bins.
Why doesn't my printed sheet line up with the preset?
Almost always a print-dialog scaling option. Print at 100% ("actual size"), not "fit to page", then measure one label against the millimetre figures shown on this page before running the full sheet — the label alignment guide covers uniform offset versus progressive drift.
