When to use ISBN
Use this for the barcode on a book cover once your national ISBN agency has issued the number. Hyphens are accepted and stripped, an ISBN-10 is converted to its ISBN-13 equivalent, and the check digit is verified before anything is drawn — so a typo in the number is caught rather than printed on a cover run.

Drawing an EAN, UPC, ITF-14 or ISBN image does not assign you that number. Retail identifiers are licensed by GS1, and ISBNs come from your national ISBN agency. Nothing on this site is described as GS1 compliant.

Where do I get an ISBN?
From the ISBN agency for your country. This tool draws the barcode for a number you have been issued; it cannot allocate one.
Can I use an ISBN-10?
Yes. It is validated on its own modulo 11 rule and converted to the ISBN-13 form that the barcode actually encodes.
Is the price add-on supported?
No. The five-digit price add-on sometimes printed beside a book barcode is not generated here — only the main ISBN symbol.
Has this output actually been read back?
